The Bayer Leverkusen star had an outstanding season last year, helping his team clinch the Bundesliga title undefeated and reaching the Europa League final, where they narrowly lost to Atalanta.
Despite these accomplishments, Boniface remains focused on personal growth rather than accolades.
Speaking to Pooja via the X platform, the Nigerian international explained his perspective: “Not sad, but disappointed because I had an amazing season last season. For me not to be there… maybe the award is for African players in AFCON, I don’t know. But in general, if it’s for African Player of the Year, I think I had a great season.”
Boniface emphasized his priorities lie in improving as a player rather than chasing recognition. “I don’t need to prove to anybody; I don’t really care about awards and stuff. But of course, as a football player, I want to improve. I want to do more for myself,” he added.
Boniface’s comments highlight his focus on continuous development, leaving no room for regrets as he looks ahead to further achievements in his career.
