Former Nigerian international Victor Ikpeba has openly expressed his dissatisfaction following the Super Eagles’ surprising 2-1 loss to Rwanda in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Monday.
This defeat marked Rwanda’s first-ever victory over the three-time African champions, leaving fans and pundits in disbelief.
Ikpeba criticized the players for their lackluster performance, labeling it a missed opportunity for fringe players to prove their worth.
Speaking on SuperSport’s Monday Night Football, he stated, “I am disappointed with the result and the performance of the team. This was a chance for other players in the squad to show they deserve a spot in the national team.”
Ikpeba further highlighted the need for fresh talent to foster competition within the team.
“Unfortunately, they failed to rise to the occasion, letting themselves and the fans down. It’s clear that new players must be introduced to increase competition and improve performance,” he added.
The defeat has sparked discussions about the Super Eagles’ readiness for the upcoming tournament, with calls for a strategic overhaul of the squad.
My happiness is that nigeria qualified, whether rwanda beat us or not, I am happy. I wanted rwanda to beat us so that one useless country called libya will not qualify. Thank god they did not qualify.

Eguavoen is a good coach. Nobody should blame him. We dont need any foreign coach. Eguavoen must coach super eagles at afcon 2025.
