Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has promised that Nigeria will approach the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers with fierce determination, describing their mindset as “red eyes.”

The Sevilla star, who started in Nigeria’s recent 2-1 loss to Rwanda during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, expressed his frustration over the result and his eagerness to redeem the team.
Speaking to Victor Modo, Iheanacho emphasized the significance of the World Cup qualifiers and Nigeria’s need to dominate.
“We must go with red eyes and win all these games. This is the World Cup qualifiers, and we understand how big this is,” Iheanacho declared.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s current standings and the challenges ahead, the former Leicester City forward added, “Now, we have a few draws, and they [the leading teams] are ahead of us in the qualifiers. They’re down here in the rankings, but we know what we need to do.”
The Super Eagles forward also shared his anticipation for the qualifiers to commence. “I can’t wait for it to start so that we can go there, do what needs to be done, and silence any doubts. Everyone will rest easy knowing we’ve secured our place at the World Cup,” he concluded.
