Manchester United have identified Alphonso Davies as their dream signing for the upcoming summer transfer window. The Bayern Munich star, considered one of the best left-backs in the world, is set to become a free agent next year if he doesn’t extend his contract with the German champions.

The 24-year-old has caught the attention of Real Madrid, who remain strong contenders for his signature. However, United have emerged as serious competitors in recent months.
While Real Madrid’s reputation may make them the favorites, United’s recent success in convincing Leny Yoro to join them despite Madrid’s interest shows their ability to secure high-profile targets.
Reports of Davies having already signed a pre-contract agreement with Real Madrid have been denied, and Bayern Munich hasn’t ruled out keeping the Canadian international. His future remains undecided as Europe’s elite clubs monitor his situation closely.
New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, known for his tactical acumen, sees Davies as a crucial piece in his vision for the team. Amorim, who achieved significant success with a 3-4-3 system at Sporting Lisbon, believes Davies would thrive as a wing-back—a vital role in his formation.
United’s struggles at left-back have been evident since last season. Luke Shaw has managed only 13 appearances since August 2023 due to injuries and setbacks. Although Shaw trained under Amorim recently, he is being tested in a center-back role.
Tyrell Malacia, another left-back option, has also been sidelined for months due to knee issues, although he played with the Under-21s last week as part of his recovery.
Davies isn’t the only target on United’s radar. Sporting striker Viktor Gyökeres has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford. While a January transfer seems unlikely, Amorim hasn’t ruled out pursuing the prolific forward next summer to bolster United’s attacking options.
Currently languishing in 13th place in the Premier League, Manchester United are banking on Amorim to rejuvenate their campaign. His debut game as head coach against Ipswich Town this weekend will mark the beginning of what fans hope is a transformative era.
With Davies’ speed, defensive versatility, and attacking prowess, he could be the answer to United’s ongoing issues on the left flank. However, securing his signature won’t be easy, given the competition from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich’s reluctance to part ways with their star defender.
The coming months will reveal if Ruben Amorim’s vision and Manchester United’s ambition are enough to bring one of football’s most sought-after players to Old Trafford.
