Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has expressed optimism that Victor Boniface could return to the pitch before the end of 2024, despite the striker’s recent thigh injury sustained during international duty.

Initial reports from German media suggested the Nigeria international might miss the rest of the year, but Alonso’s latest update paints a more hopeful picture.
“He has a small injury in his thigh muscles,” Alonso explained during a press conference. “But it won’t be for six to eight weeks. We hope that he can play again this year. We now have to wait and see how he recovers.”
Boniface has been pivotal for Leverkusen this season, recording eight goals and one assist in 15 appearances across all competitions. His absence would be a significant blow to the team, but the possibility of a quicker recovery offers a silver lining for Die Werkself.
