The lead was almost doubled, but Noni Madueke’s effort was ruled out for offside. Despite dominating possession, Chelsea allowed Leicester some chances, including a close effort from Kasey McAteer.

The Blues’ dominance continued into the second half, but a bizarre mix-up denied Cole Palmer a certain goal.

It wasn’t until the 75th minute that Chelsea made their second breakthrough. Marc Cucurella’s cross was headed goalwards by Jackson, with Mads Hermansen making the save, only for Fernandez to follow up and finish.

Leicester rallied late, and a stoppage-time penalty from Jordan Ayew made things tense, but Chelsea held on for a 2-1 win.
