Goals from Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez secured the Blues a deserved win, despite a late Jordan Ayew penalty that added tension in injury time.
The victory temporarily narrowed the gap between Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City in the Premier League standings.
Injury Concerns Surround Chelsea
Chelsea entered the match with several injury issues. Pedro Neto and Malo Gusto were ruled out due to a knock and illness, while Colwill, 21, was also a doubt after withdrawing from England duty. Nevertheless, he managed to play the full 90 minutes.
However, worrying scenes unfolded after the final whistle, as Colwill collapsed to the ground, clearly in discomfort. Medical staff attended to him immediately, and after receiving treatment, he was able to walk off the pitch.
Maresca’s Post-Match Update
In his post-match press conference, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca explained that Colwill had been unwell prior to the game but reassured fans about his condition.
“Exactly the same as Malo. He didn’t feel very well during the night and this morning. But he could play, finish the game, and hopefully it is nothing important,” Maresca said.
The manager was less optimistic about Reece James, who suffered another hamstring injury during training last week.
Additional Injuries
Maresca commented on James’ condition: “We didn’t have any update on Reece. We still have to wait for a scan and see.”
He also clarified why Pedro Neto missed the match: “Pedro had an issue with his international team. We decided not to risk him for this game but hope he can be ready for the next.”
