The injury occurred during Spurs’ stunning 4-0 victory against Manchester City on Saturday, where Vicario played through the pain to see out the match

Spurs confirmed the operation on Monday, though they did not specify the duration of the Italian’s recovery.

“We can confirm that Guglielmo Vicario has today undergone surgery for a fracture of his right ankle. The 28-year-old suffered the injury during Saturday’s Premier League victory at Manchester City. Guglielmo will be assessed by our medical staff to determine when he can return to training. We’re all behind you, Vic,” read the club’s statement.

Key Blow for Spurs

Vicario, 28, has been in stellar form this season, proving pivotal in Tottenham’s impressive performances under Ange Postecoglou.

His absence is a significant setback, especially as the team navigates a packed schedule with matches in the Premier League, Europa League, and Carabao Cup.

Forster to Step In

Tottenham will now turn to Fraser Forster, their experienced backup goalkeeper, to fill the void. The 36-year-old England international has been with the club since 2022 and last featured in the Premier League during the 2022/23 campaign.

While Forster has seen action in the Carabao Cup and Europa League this season, he will now be thrust into a more critical role.

Growing Injury Concerns for Postecoglou

Vicario’s injury adds to an already crowded list of sidelined players for Tottenham. Defenders Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, along with Mikey Moore, Wilson Odobert, and Richarlison, remain unavailable.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo Bentancur is currently serving a suspension.

Romero is reportedly the closest to a return and could feature in Spurs’ London derby against Fulham on Sunday.

What Lies Ahead

Tottenham face a challenging December with fixtures coming thick and fast. They host AS Roma on Thursday night in the Europa League before welcoming Fulham in a Premier League clash on Sunday.

The loss of Vicario, who has been a commanding presence in goal, will test Tottenham’s depth and resilience as they look to maintain momentum across competitions.
