The Hammers are set to host Mikel Arteta’s side at London Stadium, where they aim to build on their recent victory over Newcastle.
While Lopetegui is pleased with his team’s performance, he acknowledges the immense challenge Arsenal present, especially after their commanding 5-1 win over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League earlier this week.
Despite his team’s positive momentum, Lopetegui understands that defeating Arsenal will require a more comprehensive performance from his squad.
Arsenal have been on a strong run since Martin Ødegaard’s return to the starting XI, and their depth and tactical flexibility under Arteta have made them one of the most formidable sides in Europe.
As the match approaches, Lopetegui has made it clear that West Ham must be fully prepared to take on a team that he believes is not only the best in the Premier League but also among the best in the world.
Lopetegui Acknowledges Arsenal’s Strength and Depth
Despite West Ham’s recent 2-0 victory over Newcastle, Lopetegui knows his side faces a tough challenge in Arsenal. He praised Arsenal’s tactical brilliance, which has been evident in their Champions League performances and their Premier League form.
The manager pointed to the club’s depth of talent, including key players like Ødegaard, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and Kai Havertz, as a major strength.
“The most important thing is the players on the pitch being ready to compete against, in my opinion, for sure the best team in the Premier League and one of the best teams around the world,” said Lopetegui.
He stressed that Arsenal’s tactical setup, combined with their strong squad, makes them a difficult opponent for any team. Arsenal’s ability to execute various strategies and change their game plan as needed has made them a dominant force in the Premier League this season.
Lopetegui Reflects on Touchline Ban
Adding to the challenge, Lopetegui will be absent from the touchline after receiving three yellow cards, including one during West Ham’s recent win at Newcastle.
Despite his frustration at the ban, the manager expressed his respect for referees and acknowledged that his passionate nature sometimes leads to these situations. “Sometimes I need to improve the way I say my feelings,” he admitted. “I have big respect for the referees and I don’t feel anything bad.”
