Abdullahi completed his transfer to former NPFL champions Kano Pillars earlier this month after struggling to secure a new club in Europe. The 31-year-old’s last contract was with Bulgarian side Levski Sofia, which he joined in September 2022. However, his contract was terminated in January 2023, leaving him without a club until his recent move to Kano Pillars.

Typically, players based in Europe who fail to secure contracts tend to remain there and wait for opportunities. However, the former Bursaspor star decided to return to Kano Pillars, where he began his career, to continue his professional journey.

In a recent interview, the versatile defender, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, expressed his joy at rejoining the club, citing his deep affection for it. “I’m happy to be here. Kano Pillars is our club, and everyone is proud of it. It has always been a dream to return to where we started our journey,” Abdullahi shared with the Pillars’ media team.

“Kano feels like home to us, and we are always welcomed back. The fans were constantly reaching out to us while we were in Europe, urging us to return and play. We are thrilled to be here, and hopefully, we can make them proud as well.”

Abdullahi was on the bench for Kano Pillars in their last match against Sunshine Stars, where fellow returnee Ahmed Musa scored twice, leading Sai Masu Gida to a 2-0 victory.

Next up for the team is a match against Akwa United, and Abdullahi is eager to make his debut soon. Although he was once a regular fixture in Nigeria’s defense, he has not played for the Super Eagles since 2022. Pillars
