Adarabioyo took to his X account to share his excitement: “My brother! THE BEST player in Africa. Well deserved. ❤️.”

Lookman earned this prestigious honor at the CAF Awards ceremony in Marrakech, Morocco, succeeding compatriot Victor Osimhen, last year’s winner.

By clinching the title, Lookman becomes the sixth Nigerian to claim the award. He joins legends such as the late Rashidi Yekini (1993), Emmanuel Amuneke (1994), Nwankwo Kanu (1996, 1999), Victor Ikpeba (1997), and Osimhen (2023).

The Atalanta forward played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s impressive run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final in Côte d’Ivoire.

However, his crowning moment of 2024 came when he delivered a historic hat-trick to lead Atalanta to a 3-0 triumph over Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final.

Further cementing his stellar year, Lookman stood out as the only African player on the 2024 Ballon d’Or shortlist, finishing 14th in the global rankings.
