Inter Milan secured their place in the final thanks to a second-half brace from Denzel Dumfries. The reigning Serie A champions are now one step closer to claiming the trophy for a fourth consecutive year.
In Monday’s final, Inter will face the winner of Friday’s showdown between Juventus and AC Milan.
Inter manager Simone Inzaghi fielded his best lineup, while Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini made surprising choices, benching Ademola Lookman and Charles De Ketelaere. Missing their injured top scorer Mateo Retegui, Atalanta struggled to make an impact.
The first half ended goalless, with Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi stealing the spotlight. Carnesecchi thwarted Lautaro Martinez with a sharp reflex save and later executed a stunning double save, first parrying Martinez’s fierce shot and then blocking Federico Dimarco’s follow-up attempt.
Atalanta’s best chance came when Inter defender Alessandro Bastoni’s poor header set up Giorgio Scalvini. However, Scalvini’s close-range header was easily stopped by Inter’s keeper, Yann Sommer.
Four minutes into the second half, Dumfries broke the deadlock and doubled the lead in the 61st minute, sealing Inter’s dominant performance and Atalanta’s disappointment.
