The winger suffered a knock during the Super Eagles’ matchday five clash against Benin Republic on Thursday, where he was substituted late in the game for Frank Onyeka.
The 27-year-old Lookman has since returned to his club in Italy to undergo further treatment on the injury. His absence reduces Nigeria’s squad to 20 players available for the crucial encounter.
Ola Aina and Stanley Nwabali have also been confirmed as unavailable. Aina sustained a minor injury in the same game against Benin, while Nwabali departed camp due to the tragic loss of his father.
The Super Eagles will now rely on their remaining squad as they prepare to face the Amavubi of Rwanda on Monday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. This game will determine their standing in the qualifiers, with fans eagerly anticipating a strong performance despite the key absences.
