Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to return to Merseyside after suffering a suspected concussion while playing for Brazil in their World Cup qualifier against Colombia.
During the match, Alisson collided with Colombian defender Davinson Sanchez. Both players had to be substituted following the incident. Brazil’s team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, stated that Alisson experienced minor symptoms but remained conscious and alert throughout.
Lasmar explained that, despite Alisson appearing fine post-match, standard concussion protocols required his substitution. He also mentioned that the goalkeeper would undergo medical evaluations, including a CT scan and cognitive testing, to ensure there were no lasting effects.
Liverpool later confirmed on Friday that Alisson had withdrawn from Brazil’s squad and was heading back to England. The club released a statement saying that their medical staff would assess the goalkeeper upon his return to Merseyside.
Alisson’s condition will continue to be monitored over the coming days to determine his availability for Liverpool’s upcoming fixtures.
