Manchester United’s disastrous form continued with a 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford, leaving the team languishing in 13th place in the Premier League.
Head coach Ruben Amorim expressed his frustration, highlighting a costly error by goalkeeper Andre Onana that contributed to Brighton’s victory.
Onana’s misjudgment came during Brighton’s third goal, where a tame cross was inexplicably pushed directly into the path of Georginio Rutter, who capitalized on the mistake.
Addressing the error, Amorim remarked, “It’s like the team – ups and downs. Sometimes we’re really up, but then we hit really low points. Focus throughout the game is essential if we want to turn things around.”
Amorim didn’t hold back in his post-match analysis, candidly describing the current Manchester United squad as potentially “the worst team in the history of the club.”
He acknowledged the weight of expectations and the mounting pressure, saying, “We’ve won just two out of ten Premier League games. Imagine what this feels like for the fans and for me. We’re in a survival phase, and I’m fully aware of the criticism. But I won’t change my approach.”
The defeat marked United’s sixth home loss in their first 12 matches of the league campaign, the worst record since the 1893-94 season. Despite the glaring struggles, Amorim remained steadfast in his commitment to his tactical philosophy.
“I won’t abandon the way I see the game,” he insisted. “I understand that the players and fans are suffering, but I believe this approach will eventually yield results. We just need to endure this challenging period.”
Brighton, meanwhile, delivered a composed performance, with Kaoru Mitoma playing a pivotal role in their dominant display. United’s woes were compounded by the stark contrast between their form and Brighton’s impressive run this season.
As pressure mounts on Ruben Amorim to deliver results, Manchester United fans are left questioning how much more suffering they must endure before the club sees a turnaround in fortunes.
