Although Gordon traveled with the squad to London in hopes of playing, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe ultimately decided not to include him in the matchday lineup at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking on Gordon’s absence, Howe explained, “He just felt his groin yesterday in training. He traveled with us hoping he’d make the game, but he hasn’t. Harvey [Barnes] comes in.” Gordon’s injury is a notable blow to the team, as the winger has become known for his pace and impact on the field.
Despite this setback, Howe expressed optimism about his lineup: “Harvey has been excellent for us this season and brings his own qualities. I still like the team we have.” Barnes, who has shown consistent form this season, brings a different dynamic to the Newcastle offense.
Howe made two adjustments to his lineup following Newcastle’s 1-0 defeat to Brighton, with both Miguel Almiron and Harvey Barnes stepping in for Gordon and Jacob Murphy, who started on the bench.
Gordon’s absence comes at a time when Newcastle aims to regain momentum in the league. The team will look to Barnes to make an impact and help Newcastle maintain a strong showing despite the challenges posed by Gordon’s injury.
