Manchester United loanee Antony has received a major boost after Real Betis successfully appealed his red card, allowing him to play in their upcoming showdown against Real Madrid.

Antony, who has made a bright start to life in Spain, found himself in hot water during Betis’ 2-1 win over Getafe. After losing possession near the touchline, the Brazilian recklessly lunged at Juan Iglesias from behind, well after the ball had been played. The challenge left referee Javier Alberola Rojas with no choice but to show a straight red card.

Seemingly accepting his fate, Antony even gave the official a thumbs-up as he left the pitch. However, Betis swiftly lodged an appeal, and to their relief, the decision was overturned. His one-match ban has been rescinded, meaning he is available for Saturday’s high-stakes clash with La Liga leaders Real Madrid.

The news of the overturned suspension was delivered during a training session at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, with Betis’ social media capturing Antony’s elated reaction. Manager Manuel Pellegrini personally shared the decision, and Antony’s teammates and coaching staff congratulated him on the successful appeal.

The Brazilian winger has been enjoying his football again since arriving in Spain, scoring two goals and providing two assists in his first four league appearances. His confidence is soaring, and he will be eager to showcase his form on one of the biggest stages in Spanish football.

Antony’s resurgence at Betis comes after a disappointing spell at Manchester United, where he struggled to justify his hefty £82 million price tag. In two-and-a-half seasons, he managed just five Premier League goals, leading Gary Neville to brand him one of United’s worst signings in history.

Reflecting on his fresh start, Antony expressed gratitude for the opportunity to reignite his career in Spain.

“The most important thing is that I have found myself again,” he said. “I am happy and enjoying my football every day. Things go well when you’re happy, and I have worked mentally and physically to get to this moment.”

The 24-year-old acknowledged that while his time in Manchester was challenging, he still holds appreciation for his experience there.

“I wasn’t playing much, but I kept working hard. I’m grateful to Manchester United and the coach who spoke to me. But here, I feel at home. The people, the sun, and the energy remind me of Brazil. I wake up every day with a smile, and that’s very important.”

With his suspension lifted, Antony now has the perfect stage to prove himself when Betis take on Real Madrid. Facing the league leaders will be a true test of his form, but with his confidence restored, he will be eager to make a statement.

Betis fans will hope his resurgence continues, as the Brazilian looks to cement himself as a key figure in the squad and potentially earn a permanent stay in Spain.
