Antony’s first goal for Real Betis was overshadowed by a frustrating defeat as his side squandered a two-goal lead to lose 3-2 against Celta Vigo. The Manchester United loanee delivered another standout performance, earning his second consecutive MVP award, but his efforts weren’t enough to secure the win.

The Brazilian winger had already impressed in Betis’ 2-2 draw against Athletic Bilbao last weekend, and he continued his strong form by opening the scoring just 10 minutes into Saturday’s match. Diego Llorente doubled Betis’ lead in the 22nd minute, putting Manuel Pellegrini’s side in control at halftime.

However, Betis struggled after the break, conceding three unanswered goals. Williot Swedberg sealed the comeback for Celta in the 87th minute, leaving Betis with just one win in their last six matches across all competitions.

Antony, despite being named MVP once again, expressed frustration over the team’s lack of focus. Speaking to DAZN after the match, he emphasized the need for a shift in mindset.

“It’s tough to accept this result. We started well, took a two-goal lead, but we must change our mentality,” Antony said. “Playing well for only part of the match isn’t enough—we have to stay focused for the full 90 minutes.”

The 23-year-old urged his teammates to learn from the defeat and push for improvement in upcoming fixtures. “We have to start strong and finish strong. We need to work hard, analyze our mistakes, and fight for three points in the next game,” he added.

Antony joined Betis on loan from Manchester United in January, with the Spanish club covering 84% of his £200,000-a-week wages. Having arrived in a high-profile £86 million transfer to United in 2022, the Brazilian is now seeking to revive his form in La Liga
