Manchester United’s Brazilian winger Antony is on the brink of securing a loan move to Real Betis for the remainder of the season.

The 24-year-old, who joined United from Ajax in a high-profile £82 million transfer in 2022, has struggled to live up to expectations at Old Trafford, managing only five Premier League goals and 12 across all competitions.

Antony’s lackluster performances have seen him fall out of favor under new manager Ruben Amorim, starting only two matches since the Portuguese coach’s arrival in November. With competition for places fierce, United has actively sought to loan out the forward during the January transfer window.

Several clubs, including Olympiacos, teams in Turkey, and the Saudi Pro League, expressed interest in the former Ajax star. However, Real Betis has emerged as the leading contender to secure Antony’s services.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, talks between the clubs are in advanced stages, with United set to cover a portion of the player’s wages during the loan period.

Antony has reportedly agreed to the move, and the deal will likely proceed without an option for a permanent transfer. Despite his struggles, the Brazilian remains under contract with United until 2027 and is expected to return in the summer, when his future at the club will be reassessed.

Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, confirmed earlier interest from several European clubs but emphasized that Manchester United had not initially expressed a desire to offload the player. “Antony’s future is tied to United’s interests. If they believe a loan move is the best option for him to regain form, we’ll work together to make it happen,” Pedroso said.

United fans will hope this temporary switch to La Liga provides Antony with the platform to rediscover the form that made him a standout player during his Ajax days. Meanwhile, Betis aims to leverage his talent as they push to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.

As negotiations near completion, Antony’s move could mark a fresh start for the Brazilian winger, offering him a chance to rebuild his confidence and showcase his potential.
