Arsenal are anxiously waiting on goalkeeper David Raya’s fitness ahead of their crucial Premier League showdown with Manchester City on Sunday.

The Spaniard missed their Champions League victory over Girona due to an undisclosed injury, forcing Neto to make his long-awaited debut.

However, the 35-year-old’s performance was shaky, nearly gifting the hosts an early lead with a misplaced touch before being caught off his line for Arnaut Danjuma’s opener.

With Raya sidelined, Arsenal named teenagers Jack Porter and Tommy Setford on the bench, though neither saw action.

Despite his absence, the first-choice keeper traveled with the squad, watching from the stands as Mikel Arteta opted not to risk him. Reports suggest Arsenal remain optimistic that the 29-year-old will be fit to face City.

While Neto failed to impress, Ethan Nwaneri seized his opportunity with a stunning winner on his first Champions League start. With Bukayo Saka injured, the 17-year-old has emerged as a key figure in Arteta’s squad.

His goal secured Arsenal’s spot in the last 16 as a seeded team, avoiding a tricky February play-off.

Reflecting on his memorable night, Nwaneri expressed his joy at scoring and winning man of the match, calling the experience surreal.

“The Champions League is what I’ve watched since I was young. Hearing the music before the game was special,” he said.

Arsenal had to battle for the win, initially falling behind when Danjuma capitalized on Neto’s mistake. Jorginho equalized from the penalty spot after Thomas Partey was fouled, setting up Nwaneri’s decisive moment. His curling strike, after gliding past three defenders, sealed the victory.

Girona had chances to level late on, with Raheem Sterling missing a stoppage-time penalty and Cristhian Stuani’s goal ruled out for offside, but Arsenal held firm. Nwaneri praised his teammates for their resilience, expressing confidence in their ability to go far in the competition.
