Haaland had a chance to narrow the scoreline with a second-half penalty, but his shot crashed against the crossbar, denying City a chance to close the gap.
Soon after, Viktor Gyokeres netted his own penalty, sealing a memorable hat-trick and putting the game out of reach for City.
The incident revived memories of Haaland’s altercation with Arsenal players earlier this season when he threw the ball at Gabriel Magalhaes during a heated 2-2 draw at the Etihad Stadium.
Arsenal fans were quick to remind Haaland of his “stay humble” comment towards Mikel Arteta, with many taking to social media to mock the striker. Haaland’s only recent goals have come against Southampton, Sparta Prague, and Slovan Bratislava, adding to Arsenal fans’ claims that he’s struggling to make an impact.
Meanwhile, Bernardo Silva admitted City was in a “dark place,” expressing concerns about their recent struggles despite creating opportunities.
Guardiola, however, maintained optimism, promising to rally the squad ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash with Brighton.
