Joe Cole has speculated that Arsenal could pull off a surprising move for Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford during the January transfer window, provided the financial terms align.

Rashford, 27, recently expressed a desire for a “new challenge” after spending two decades with United, having joined the club as a seven-year-old. His decision comes after a significant dip in form over the past 18 months.

The forward’s standout 2022/23 season saw him score 30 goals in 56 appearances, but his form has since waned, with only 11 Premier League goals since then.

With Manchester United willing to entertain offers, any deal would likely require them to cover a significant portion of Rashford’s hefty £325,000-a-week wages.

While several top European clubs—including AC Milan, Galatasaray, Borussia Dortmund, and Barcelona—have expressed interest, Newcastle and Arsenal are also monitoring the situation. As the transfer window enters its final two weeks, Rashford’s future remains uncertain.

Speaking on Al Arabiya News’ The Dressing Room podcast, former West Ham star Joe Cole suggested West Ham could be an ideal destination for Rashford.

He noted that Rashford’s high wages limit his options but insisted West Ham could replicate the success of Jesse Lingard’s short loan stint from United in 2020/21.

“If I were West Ham manager, I’d push hard for this deal. I’d get Rashford in, talk to him, and ask what he needs to get back to his best. It’s about man-management,” said Cole.

He added that involving Rashford’s family and showing unwavering support could help the England international rediscover his form.

Cole also believes Arsenal could make a late push for Rashford, countering suggestions that United would refuse to strengthen a rival.

“If the money is right, I think United would consider it. I don’t think they see Arsenal as direct competition this season for a loan deal,” he explained.

The ex-Chelsea winger emphasized Rashford’s best role as a left forward and underscored the importance of creating the right environment for the player to succeed. “It’s all about getting everyone on side and working together to make it happen,” he concluded.
