Arsenal’s fading Premier League title ambitions have sparked calls for urgent reinforcements, with Gary Lineker naming Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap as the striker Mikel Arteta should target this summer.

A crucial week in the title race saw Arsenal miss a golden opportunity to close the gap on leaders Liverpool.

The Gunners fell 1-0 at home to West Ham, while Liverpool extended their advantage to 11 points with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Manchester City.

Despite injuries to key players like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Kai Havertz, Arsenal made no moves in the January transfer window.

This lack of attacking depth has raised concerns, with both Lineker and Premier League legend Alan Shearer insisting the club must invest in a proven goal-scorer.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer pointed to Napoli forward Victor Osimhen as a potential target, believing the Nigerian international would deliver goals for Arsenal.

However, he acknowledged the financial challenge, warning: “The world knows Arsenal need a striker. A player worth £60-70 million will now cost £100-110 million when Arsenal come calling.”

Lineker, meanwhile, suggested a domestic solution. He praised Liam Delap’s impressive debut Premier League season at Ipswich Town, despite the club’s struggles. “I like his movement,” Lineker said. “If Ipswich go down, he’s likely to leave, and Arsenal should make a move.”

Shearer echoed the sentiment, describing Delap as one of Ipswich’s standout performers. “He’s had a good season and brings strength and positivity. In a year or two, he could be a huge asset for a top club,” Shearer added.

While Newcastle’s Alexander Isak has also been linked with Arsenal, Shearer expressed skepticism about the feasibility of that deal. “I don’t think Arsenal can afford him,” he stated. “If Newcastle qualify for the Champions League and win a trophy, why would Isak want to leave?”

As Arsenal’s title hopes dwindle, the pressure is mounting on Arteta to address the club’s striking deficiencies. Whether they target a high-profile signing like Osimhen or a rising talent like Delap, one thing is clear—Arsenal must act decisively to stay competitive.
