Bayern Munich director Max Eberl has downplayed concerns over Harry Kane’s goal drought from open play, emphasizing his faith in the England captain’s abilities.
Despite an impressive 22 goals in 24 matches this season, Kane has not scored from open play since his hat-trick against Augsburg on 22 November.
His recent contributions came via penalties, and a minor hamstring injury in December further slowed his progress.
Bayern’s recent 3-0 Champions League defeat to Feyenoord has intensified scrutiny on the team, but Eberl remains unworried about Kane.
“Harry is not a concern for me,” said Eberl. “He’s experienced enough to manage challenges. Of course, we rely on his goals, and he is his own harshest critic, but this isn’t a mental issue for him.”
Despite leading the Bundesliga, Bayern’s Champions League campaign under Vincent Kompany has been underwhelming, with four wins and three losses in seven games.
Their hopes of advancing to the top eight now hinge on defeating Slovan Bratislava in their final group stage match and depending on other results.
Kompany admitted Feyenoord deserved their victory and lamented Bayern’s missed opportunities, including chances from Kane and Jamal Musiala.
“Feyenoord earned their win through hard work and good execution,” Kompany said. “We had opportunities but failed to capitalize.”
As Bayern aims to recover in Europe, Kane’s return to form will be pivotal in achieving their ambitions this season.
