Bayern Munich have confirmed that Mathys Tel is pushing for a January exit, with Manchester United, Chelsea, and Arsenal closely monitoring the situation.
The 19-year-old winger has struggled for minutes under Vincent Kompany, sitting behind Michael Olise, Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sané, and Serge Gnabry in the squad rotation. Without a goal in any competition this season, Tel has grown frustrated and is now looking for a fresh start elsewhere.
As the transfer window nears its final days, several Premier League clubs are considering moves. Despite speculation surrounding his future, Tel was handed a rare start in Bayern’s Champions League victory over Slovan Bratislava. His 62nd-minute substitution saw him wave to the crowd, further fueling exit rumors.
Speaking after the match, Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl confirmed Tel’s desire to leave. “He told us in December that he wanted stability. Now he wants to move on,” Eberl stated. “We’ll have to assess our options. While we understand his frustration over playing time, we had hoped he would fight for his place. There’s no bad blood, but I’ve never received so many inquiries about a player before.”
Captain Manuel Neuer also acknowledged Tel’s concerns, suggesting that a transfer could benefit his development. “Young players need regular game time,” Neuer said. “Maybe this is the right move for him.”
Asked about his future, Tel remained noncommittal, simply telling Sky Germany, “I don’t know.”
Chelsea previously explored a deal but faced hesitation from Tel, who was wary of stiff competition for a starting spot in Enzo Maresca’s team.
Arsenal have tracked the winger for some time, though their priority remains Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins. The Gunners recently had a £60 million bid for Watkins rejected and are expected to make another offer soon.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are looking to reshape their attack and could offer Tel a key role, particularly as they weigh potential exits for Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.
With the transfer deadline fast approaching, Tel’s future could be decided in the coming days.
