Benin Republic’s hopes for a successful Africa Cup of Nations 2025 qualification have taken another hit as key players are ruled out ahead of their decisive matches against Nigeria and Libya.

Midfielder Matteo Ahlinvi and left-back David Kiki are the latest to be sidelined. Ahlinvi sustained an injury while playing for Vasteras in Sweden last weekend and will remain with his club for treatment.
Meanwhile, Kiki, currently training with the squad in Abidjan, will miss both matches due to fitness issues, as confirmed by head coach Gernot Rohr. “Kiki is still a little short to resume right away. He has been injured for two months but has regained his health,” Rohr noted.
Already facing the absence of dependable defenders Cedric Hountondji and Olivier Verdon, Benin’s defense looks increasingly thin, as Rohr has opted not to call up any replacements for the injured players.
This leaves the team with a challenging task ahead as they aim to secure their qualification in the upcoming crucial encounters.
