After Manchester City’s dramatic 2-1 loss to Manchester United, Bernardo Silva didn’t hold back in his criticism of the team’s performance, describing their late-game actions as “stupid” and comparing their play to an under-15 team.

Despite Josko Gvardiol’s first-half goal putting City in control, the match took a sharp turn in the final minutes.

A rash penalty from Matheus Nunes allowed Bruno Fernandes to equalize, and soon after, Amad Diallo scored a stunning goal to give United all three points.

Late Mistakes Cost City Again

Silva was deeply frustrated by the late collapse, highlighting key moments where Manchester City failed to see out the win.

“At this level, a game or two is unlucky. We can’t say this is lucky or unlucky – 10 games it’s not about that,” Silva said.

The midfielder pointed to the decision-making in the final moments of the match, particularly from Nunes, who fouled Diallo in the penalty area. Silva described it as a careless mistake and insisted that such errors cost them dearly, especially in such a crucial derby.

City were still leading 1-0 with only a few minutes left when Nunes’ foul handed United the chance to draw level. Silva continued: “We played like under-15s. You deserve to pay for that.” According to him, the squad failed to close out the match properly, with poor communication and misjudged passes leading to unnecessary pressure.

“It’s not just the pass from Matheus to the goalkeeper. It’s everything,” he explained, emphasizing the need for greater composure and smarter decision-making from his teammates.

Pep Guardiola’s Struggles Continue

After the game, manager Pep Guardiola admitted that Manchester City’s slump continued, with the team struggling to maintain control and composure in matches. He also took responsibility for the defeat, stating that he hadn’t been able to find the right solutions for the team’s problems.

“I am not good enough,” Guardiola confessed. The coach pointed out that mistakes were being made across the pitch and that his side had been giving away goals far too easily. “We have to play better,” he added, acknowledging that the team’s current form is far below the expected standards.

City’s poor run of form, which has seen them win just once in their last 11 games, is now a growing concern, and both Silva and Guardiola are clear that drastic improvements are needed in both individual and collective performances.

Silva urged his teammates to take responsibility for their actions and show more maturity on the pitch, especially in crucial moments.
