Mathys Tel has left Tottenham disappointed after rejecting their €60 million (£50.2m) bid, but Manchester United and Arsenal could still secure the Bayern Munich forward before the transfer window shuts.
Despite Spurs chairman Daniel Levy traveling to Munich to push the deal, Tel declined, preferring to stay at Bayern unless another club swooped in. Now, United and Arsenal are the only contenders for his signature, with Chelsea and Aston Villa dropping out of the race, per RMC Sport.
Sky Germany confirms United has contacted Bayern but has yet to submit a formal offer, while Arsenal, long admirers of Tel since his €28.5 million (£24.4m) Rennes transfer in 2022, have not made a move either. Chelsea showed interest earlier this month, but Tel hesitated due to intense competition in Enzo Maresca’s attacking setup.
Tel’s frustration over limited minutes—only three starts under Vincent Kompany—fuels his exit plans. Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl acknowledged Tel’s shift in stance, revealing that the player initially wanted to stay but now seeks more playing time.
As deadline day looms, Bayern must decide whether to keep the 19-year-old or let him leave, with United and Arsenal closely monitoring the situation.
