Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has dismissed reports suggesting Evan Ferguson could leave the club on loan in January.
Despite limited Premier League starts this season, Hurzeler emphasized that the Republic of Ireland international remains a key part of his plans.
Injuries and competition from Danny Welbeck, Georginio Rutter, and Joao Pedro have limited Ferguson’s game time, but the German coach insists the 20-year-old has a significant role to play moving forward.
Since breaking into Brighton’s first team under Graham Potter and continuing his growth under Roberto De Zerbi, Ferguson has faced challenges this season. However, Hurzeler expressed satisfaction with the striker’s progress in training and his readiness both physically and mentally.
The manager revealed that he has communicated with Ferguson about his expectations, encouraging him to stay focused and prepared for opportunities over the demanding Christmas schedule.
Ahead of Brighton’s clash with Southampton, Hurzeler stated, “I told Evan that I’m happy with his attitude and the shape he’s in. He’s a young player who needs game time, but he must accept his role and not complain.
Players like Igor have shown that by staying ready, they can make the most of their chances.” Hurzeler also made it clear that there are no plans to send Ferguson on loan, adding that the striker is vital to the team’s depth during a busy period.
A win against Southampton would mark Brighton’s third consecutive league victory and could see them temporarily climb to second in the Premier League table.
