Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler is grappling with injury concerns as Joao Pedro remains uncertain for Thursday’s Premier League game against Ipswich.
Despite his impressive penalty equaliser against Arsenal two weeks ago, Pedro missed Saturday’s FA Cup win over Norwich and is yet to regain full fitness.
Veteran striker Danny Welbeck made a comeback in the Norwich match and could lead Brighton’s attack at Portman Road. However, Hurzeler hasn’t entirely ruled out Pedro.
In his pre-match press conference, Hurzeler explained, “Joao is training with the team today. We’ll evaluate his fitness before making any decisions. What matters most is how he feels. We won’t take unnecessary risks.”
Pedro’s sporadic appearances this season have hindered his rhythm, but Hurzeler highlighted the player’s positive mindset.
“He’s in a good place mentally. While he wants to play every game, his body sometimes demands rest, and he understands that,” Hurzeler added.
Meanwhile, Brighton’s defensive woes deepen with Igor Julio sidelined for the season due to a hamstring injury requiring surgery.
However, Hurzeler shared some positive news: “Lewis Dunk is back in training, and both Adam Webster and Jan Paul van Hecke are available. These three will be our central defensive options moving forward.”
Brighton will need to adapt swiftly as they navigate injury setbacks while aiming for a strong performance against Ipswich.
