The midfielder admitted to apologizing for his own lackluster performances, feeling personally accountable for the club’s struggles this season.

Ten Hag was dismissed after United’s 2-1 loss to West Ham, which left the club in a disappointing 12th place in the Premier League standings.

With Ruben Amorim appointed as Ten Hag’s successor, Ruud van Nistelrooy is handling interim duties until Amorim’s arrival on November 11. In the match against Chelsea, Fernandes managed to get on the scoresheet through a penalty, though it was later equalized by Moises Caicedo, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

Post-match, Fernandes reflected on Ten Hag’s sacking, acknowledging the team’s poor results and stating, “When a manager goes, it’s because the team hasn’t been performing, and we, as players, share that responsibility.”

Former United captain Roy Keane, however, criticized Fernandes for his response, suggesting his apologies came “too little, too late” and questioning his leadership.

Keane remarked that Fernandes had failed to provide adequate support to Ten Hag during challenging periods and had not displayed the necessary leadership on the field.
