The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that the 2024 African Player of the Year Awards will be held on December 16, 2024, in the scenic city of Marrakech, Morocco. This marks the third consecutive year that Morocco will host this prestigious event, following last year’s successful ceremony.

CAF announced the date via their social media channels, inviting fans to mark their calendars: “It’s this time of the year again. #CAFAwards2024. December 16. Marrakech, Morocco.”

The annual CAF Awards celebrate exceptional performances by players and teams in both club and national competitions, with the African Player of the Year in men’s and women’s categories being the highlight of the evening.

Victor Osimhen, the current holder of the men’s award, claimed his first title last year after an outstanding season with Napoli in Serie A. However, he is likely to lose the title this year after a relatively quiet 2023/24 season with both Napoli and the Nigerian national team.

Fellow Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has emerged as a leading contender for the award after a remarkable season with Atalanta and the Super Eagles. Lookman played a crucial role in Nigeria’s journey to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and contributed significantly to Atalanta’s historic Europa League triumph.

Another strong candidate is Victor Boniface, whose impressive form for Bayer Leverkusen helped secure the club’s first-ever league and cup double.

Other notable nominees include Brahim Diaz, a winger for Real Madrid from Morocco, and Serhou Guirassy, a prolific striker for Borussia Dortmund.

Alongside the Men’s Player of the Year award, the ceremony will also honor various categories, including Youth Player of the Year, Club of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, and Coach of the Year.
