Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been nominated for the Male Team of the Year award in the upcoming 2024 CAF Awards.

The Super Eagles had a strong start to the year, making an impressive run to the final of the CAF Nations qualifiers, although they were ultimately defeated by hosts Ivory Coast.
Under the management of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro, the team showed promise, but his departure after the Africa Cup of Nations in February led to a turbulent phase for the squad.
Following Peseiro’s exit, the team struggled under former coach Finidi George. However, they have since regained their form under the guidance of Augustine Eguavoen, who took over in August.
CAF announced the nominees for the 2024 awards on Thursday, highlighting several Nigerian elements in various categories.
The Super Eagles are included in the shortlist for the Team of the Year award, competing against Angola, Burkina Faso, DR Congo, Morocco, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, Uganda, and the African champions, Ivory Coast.
The winner of this category will be revealed during the CAF Awards ceremony scheduled for December in Marrakech, Morocco. Ivory Coast is considered the favorite to win, having clinched the AFCON title this year.
