Jamie Carragher has expressed his main concern regarding Liverpool’s Champions League exit against Paris Saint-Germain. The Reds were eliminated in the last-16 stage on Tuesday, losing on penalties at Anfield.

Gianluigi Donnarumma played a crucial role for PSG, saving penalties from Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones. Meanwhile, PSG converted all their spot-kicks, with Desire Doue sealing their place in the quarter-finals.

Carragher was particularly puzzled by the coin toss before the shootout. PSG not only won the right to take penalties away from the Kop end but also got to shoot first, which he believes gave them a double advantage.

Speaking on CBS Sports, Carragher noted that typically, the team choosing the end does not also get the first penalty. Despite his concerns, he acknowledged PSG’s deserved progression.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk addressed the disappointment, urging his teammates to stay positive. He emphasized the intensity of the match and the reality of being knocked out on penalties.

Reflecting on their European journey, he highlighted the challenge of facing PSG, acknowledging their struggles in Paris despite winning. He was proud of Liverpool’s display but accepted the harsh reality of elimination.

Van Dijk praised Liverpool’s attacking efforts, noting their ability to create dangerous chances. He admitted that while PSG had quality, Liverpool put in a strong performance but ultimately fell short.

With the Champions League campaign over, Liverpool must now shift focus. Their next challenge is the 2025 Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United on Sunday, offering a chance to bounce back.
