Ruben Amorim has provided his clearest indication yet that Casemiro may have played his final match for Manchester United.
The Brazilian midfielder, who has struggled to regain his form, hasn’t featured for the team since the start of the year.
His last appearance was during United’s 2-0 home loss to Newcastle last month, where he appeared far from his best.
Casemiro was on the bench but unused during United’s dramatic Europa League victory over Rangers and is expected to miss the upcoming clash against Fulham.
The former Real Madrid star has been linked with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League, where a reunion with Cristiano Ronaldo could be on the cards.
When questioned about Casemiro’s lack of game time, despite his £70 million price tag, Amorim explained: “I need to select players whose characteristics align with the game I want to play. Sometimes, it’s simply a matter of choice and style.”
Meanwhile, uncertainty also surrounds Marcus Rashford. The forward hasn’t played for United since December 12 but was spotted training earlier this week.
Despite this, he was absent from the squad for Thursday’s match, with Amorim naming only nine substitutes instead of the maximum twelve.
Rashford, now 27, had expressed his desire for a new challenge over five weeks ago but remains at United, despite links with AC Milan and Barcelona.
When asked about Rashford’s future, Amorim remained noncommittal: “I don’t know. With eight days left in the window, we’ll see what happens and discuss it then.”
Similarly, Alejandro Garnacho’s future appears uncertain. The 20-year-old started in the Rangers win but has been linked with moves to Napoli and Chelsea. Amorim’s response was once again cautious: “Let’s see in the next few days.”
As the transfer window nears its conclusion, the futures of Casemiro, Rashford, and Garnacho remain up in the air, with Amorim keeping his cards close
