Casemiro’s Potential Departure: Roma, Saudi, or Turkey?
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro could be on the move, with Roma reportedly pursuing a six-month loan deal in the final days of the January transfer window.
The Brazilian, who joined United in 2022 for £70 million, initially impressed at Old Trafford but has since struggled for form and consistency.
The 32-year-old has been out of favor under United boss Ruben Amorim, who has left him as an unused substitute in the last six games.
Casemiro’s struggles were highlighted during a 2-0 loss to Newcastle, where he appeared off the pace. Amorim recently acknowledged that the midfielder’s playing style doesn’t align with his tactical system, citing the need for higher-intensity players.
Roma, eyeing a midfield reinforcement amid the potential departure of Leandro Paredes, have approached United to explore a loan deal.
Sky Italy reports that Casemiro is interested in the move. However, United prefer a permanent transfer for the player, whose contract runs until the end of next season.
The main obstacle is Casemiro’s staggering £375,000-a-week salary. Roma would likely need United to subsidize a significant portion of his wages to make a loan feasible.
Casemiro has previously drawn interest from Saudi clubs, but another possible destination is Turkey. Former United manager and current Besiktas boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly keen to sign the experienced midfielder.
Amorim Eyes Reinforcements
As Casemiro edges closer to the exit, Amorim is already working on reshaping his squad. United have reportedly agreed to a €37.5 million (£31.4m) deal for Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, a versatile left-sided defender.
Dorgu is expected to address United’s lack of a natural left wing-back for Amorim’s preferred three-at-the-back formation.
Additionally, United are exploring a deal for Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku, who has struggled for minutes under Enzo Maresca.
A potential swap involving Alejandro Garnacho has been suggested, but Nkunku reportedly favors a permanent move.
With Casemiro’s future uncertain and key signings on the horizon, Amorim is making bold moves to reshape Manchester United’s squad as the January transfer window nears its conclusion.
