Chelsea’s hopes of re-signing Jamal Musiala aren’t dead yet, even after the German starlet committed to Bayern Munich until 2030. The 21-year-old, who has 15 goals and eight assists in 30 appearances this season, remains one of the most sought-after young talents in world football.

Musiala’s previous contract was set to expire in 2026, attracting interest from Liverpool, Man City, Barcelona, and PSG.

Even Arsenal legend Ian Wright urged the Gunners to pursue him, given his past ties to England—he spent eight years in Chelsea’s academy before joining Bayern.

Despite his new long-term deal, a release clause allows clubs to sign him—though at a staggering €175 million (£145.8m). This would make him the most expensive Premier League signing ever and the third-costliest in history after Neymar and Mbappé’s moves to PSG.

For those willing to wait, the clause drops to €100m (£83.3m) in 2029, but any move would still require covering his new €25m-a-year salary—around £400,000 per week.

Meanwhile, Musiala has helped Bayern establish an eight-point Bundesliga lead, which could extend further if they defeat title rivals Bayer Leverkusen. In Europe, they have a strong chance of reaching the Champions League last-16 after a 2-1 victory over Celtic.

Bayern rarely includes release clauses in contracts, but another key player, Harry Kane, will reportedly be available for just £54m next year.
