Jeff Stelling has questioned Chelsea’s rumored interest in Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, claiming it’s the “last thing” the Blues need.
The 20-year-old Argentine, once regarded as United’s brightest prospect, has seen his stock drop under new manager Ruben Amorim.
With limited game time and a recent omission from the Manchester derby squad, Garnacho is reportedly open to leaving, sparking interest from Serie A giants Napoli and Chelsea.
Chelsea, who already boast a crowded roster of attacking players like Pedro Neto, Jadon Sancho, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, and Mykhailo Mudryk, reportedly made an inquiry last week.
Speculation grew further when Garnacho’s agent was spotted at Stamford Bridge during Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Wolves. Despite this, former Sky Sports host Stelling remains unconvinced, suggesting Chelsea should prioritize reinforcements in other positions.
Speaking on talkSPORT with Scott Minto, Stelling said, “With Neto, Madueke, Sancho… surely Garnacho is the last thing Chelsea need?” Minto agreed, noting Chelsea’s recent habit of stockpiling players and Mudryk’s uncertain recovery. “They’ve already got Mudryk, but they might see him as a replacement if needed,” Minto added.
Garnacho, who has scored 23 goals in 118 appearances since joining United at 16, is one of several Red Devils linked with January moves, alongside Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia.
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher also weighed in, saying Garnacho’s departure “wouldn’t be the end of the world” if a good offer came through.
“United need to keep Mainoo, but Garnacho? I think selling him for the right price could make sense,” Carragher shared on The Overlap.
As United prepare for their Europa League clash with Rangers following a loss to Brighton, Garnacho’s future remains uncertain, with Chelsea’s interest dividing opinions. Will the Blues gamble on another wide player, or will they focus on filling gaps in their squad?
