Chelsea Eye Record Transfer for Arsenal Target Alexander Isak

A former Chelsea striker believes the Blues may make a massive transfer bid for Arsenal-linked Alexander Isak in January. Newcastle’s Swedish striker, valued at over £100m, has been in sensational form since joining from Real Sociedad, scoring 44 goals in 70 Premier League appearances.

Currently, he’s on a hot streak with 14 goals in his last 15 matches, helping Newcastle climb to fifth in the table, just a point shy of the Champions League spots.

Despite the odds of a January deal being slim, ex-Chelsea forward Pat Nevin suggests his former club might attempt a bold move for Isak. Chelsea, after a brilliant first half of the season, are now struggling to find goals, with Nicolas Jackson misfiring in recent matches.

Nevin admits Chelsea would benefit from signing Isak but feels Arsenal would be a better fit for the forward. “I wouldn’t be surprised if Chelsea made a huge bid for Isak if he’s available,” Nevin told Grosvenor Sport.

“But style-wise, can you imagine him playing in front of Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard at Arsenal? That would be frightening.”

Nevin also notes that Manchester United could express interest in Isak if rumors of availability arise, though Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is unlikely to let his star striker go.

Discussing Chelsea’s current issues, Nevin highlighted Jackson’s missed chances as a key factor in their dip. “They weren’t title contenders in my view, but I expected a top-four finish based on the promise shown under Mauricio Pochettino last season,” Nevin said. “Some of their younger players are maturing, but Jackson’s missed chances have cost them crucial points.”

Nevin predicts Chelsea will sell several first-team players in January to fund potential signings, possibly including another striker. He believes the club’s trading strategy could see “four or five” departures, raising as much as £80m. Names like Christopher Nkunku could even be on the list—not due to poor performance, but because Chelsea often trades key players for business reasons.

Chelsea’s struggles recently saw them slip to fourth in the league, 10 points behind Liverpool, following a four-game winless streak. However, they bounced back in the FA Cup with a commanding 5-0 win over Morecambe to reach the fourth round, showing signs of recovery under Enzo Maresca.

As January approaches, speculation over Isak’s future is likely to intensify, with Chelsea, Arsenal, and possibly Manchester United keeping a close eye on the Newcastle star. Though arsenal remains the top contender to sign the swedish star
