Chelsea’s resurgence under Enzo Maresca has sparked excitement, but not everyone is convinced they can go all the way in the Premier League title race.

Despite sitting second in the table, just two points behind Liverpool, doubts linger over their ability to maintain this form, especially against the league’s top sides.
Enzo Maresca has made an impressive start in his debut season as Chelsea manager, with five consecutive wins propelling the Blues into contention.
However, pundits Thierry Henry and Jamie Carragher remain skeptical. Both believe Chelsea need to prove themselves by beating top-tier teams like Liverpool, Manchester City, and Arsenal to solidify their title credentials.
Henry pointed out Chelsea’s struggles against big teams this season. “They’ve shown resilience, like coming back against Tottenham, but I want to see them beat a team around them,” he said on Sky Sports. “Beat Liverpool, City, or Arsenal, and then we can talk about them as true contenders.”
Chelsea’s current record against Premier League heavyweights isn’t reassuring. They lost to Manchester City on opening day, suffered a defeat against Liverpool, and managed only a draw against Arsenal.
Jamie Carragher expressed concern over Chelsea’s defensive setup, particularly their goalkeeper and center-backs, which he believes could falter in challenging fixtures.
“Goodison Park next weekend is a real test,” said Carragher. “Everton may be near the bottom, but it’s a tough ground, and weaknesses in key areas could show up. If they can keep a clean sheet there, it might change perceptions.”
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has faced criticism for inconsistency, while Maresca himself acknowledges Chelsea’s need for improvement.
Reflecting on their 2-1 victory over Brentford, where a late goal almost cost them points, the Italian downplayed their title chances.
“We’re not ready to compete for the title,” Maresca admitted. “Teams that win titles don’t concede the type of late goals we did against Brentford. It’s why I keep saying we aren’t there yet.”
While Maresca welcomes the pressure of competing for the title, he insists the team needs time to develop the composure and discipline required to win trophies.
For now, Chelsea’s journey continues, with plenty left to prove against both the league’s elite and stubborn underdogs.
