Chelsea have successfully retained their highly-rated academy star Josh Acheampong, who has signed a new long-term contract with the club until 2029, The Athletic reports.

The 18-year-old right-back had attracted significant interest from European giants, including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, but has decided to commit his future to Stamford Bridge.
Real Madrid were reportedly keen on Acheampong, viewing him as both a short-term right-back option and a future superstar. However, Chelsea have managed to convince the teenager to stay, albeit with some tough negotiations.
Reports suggest the club informed Acheampong that he wouldn’t feature for the first team or the development squad until a new deal was agreed.
The breakthrough came when Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca handed him his first start in the club’s 3-1 UEFA Conference League victory over Astana last week.
Maresca has been vocal about his admiration for Acheampong, emphasizing his potential to become a top player.
“Josh has the potential to be very important for Chelsea,” Maresca said in October. “He’s still only 18, so many things can change, but he has what it takes to succeed.
It’s crucial for the club to keep him and to ensure he gets minutes and enjoys his football.”
Acheampong’s decision to stay will be seen as a major victory for Chelsea, especially with Real Madrid’s reputation for snapping up young talents.
With his new contract secured, the Blues will hope to see the teenager develop into a first-team regular and fulfill his immense potential in west London.
