Chelsea have reportedly made an inquiry to Manchester United regarding a potential deal for Alejandro Garnacho, according to The Athletic.

Although United are not actively seeking to sell Garnacho, Premier League profit and sustainability regulations could compel them to consider offers for some of their academy players.

Among those attracting attention is 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, whose long-term future at United remains uncertain.

Chelsea and Bayern Munich are both monitoring the midfielder’s situation despite his importance in Ruben Amorim’s squad.

Chelsea are now also eyeing Garnacho as a potential addition to strengthen their wide attacking options. Garnacho recently started United’s game against Southampton, partially due to Diogo Dalot’s suspension. However, under Amorim’s management, the Argentine winger has struggled for regular starts.

While Amorim acknowledges Garnacho’s potential, he has emphasized areas for improvement. “He has talent and is adapting to our system.

He’s finding the best way to play and changing how he sees himself,” Amorim stated ahead of United’s Southampton match.

Despite Amorim’s confidence in Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford, several top clubs remain interested. Napoli, for instance, have identified Garnacho as their preferred replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is set to join PSG in a €70 million (£58.9m) deal. Napoli’s initial £40 million bid for Garnacho has already been rejected, with United holding out for £70 million.

Chelsea’s interest, however, is still in the early stages. The club recently signed Jadon Sancho from United on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy but remain in search of additional wide reinforcements.

The Blues have been without Mykhailo Mudryk since December, following his suspension due to a failed drugs test. Meanwhile, England youth international and Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens is also on Chelsea’s radar, with seven goals in 17 league appearances this season.

As the January transfer window heats up, Garnacho’s future remains uncertain, with United’s resolve set to be tested by the growing interest from Chelsea and other top European clubs.
