Chelsea is reportedly in advanced discussions to secure Borussia Dortmund’s explosive winger Karim Adeyemi, one of the fastest players in Bundesliga history.
The 22-year-old has clocked an impressive top speed of 22.77 mph, making him the third-fastest player in the league since speed tracking began in 2011, as per the Bundesliga website.
German journalist Christian Falk revealed on social media platform X that Chelsea is eyeing a summer move for the highly-rated Germany international.
While Italian giants Napoli are also keen to swoop for Adeyemi in the current January window, a mid-season transfer appears unlikely, as Dortmund is expected to demand a hefty fee for their versatile star.
Liverpool has also shown interest in Adeyemi, who has made a strong impression this season. Adeyemi’s tally includes two goals and three assists in just eight Bundesliga matches, complemented by his outstanding Champions League performances, where he has scored three times and delivered one assist in only two games.
Chelsea previously approached Adeyemi during last summer’s transfer window, but the forward was reportedly hesitant to make the switch to Stamford Bridge. However, the Blues appear undeterred as they renew their pursuit of the player.
Since joining Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022, Adeyemi has been a standout performer. Across 77 appearances, he has amassed 19 goals and 13 assists, earning him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award for the 2022-23 campaign.
Despite his current success, Adeyemi’s football journey has not been without challenges. He initially developed at Bayern Munich’s academy before leaving without making a senior appearance. Since then, he has evolved into one of Europe’s most exciting talents, capable of operating as both a winger and forward.
As Chelsea faces competition from other top clubs, including Liverpool, the coming months will determine if Adeyemi makes the move to the Premier League. With his blistering pace and growing reputation, Adeyemi could provide the cutting edge Chelsea seeks to bolster their attack.
