Former Southampton defender Jose Fonte has claimed that Chelsea made a huge mistake by not signing Victor Osimhen, insisting the Nigerian forward has all the qualities of a Premier League superstar.
Speaking to BoyleSports, Fonte highlighted Osimhen’s speed, power, and intelligence, comparing him to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba. “Chelsea are crying out for a striker like Victor Osimhen,” he said. “He is a winner and could have been another Drogba for them.”
Despite acknowledging Drogba’s legendary status, Fonte believes Osimhen’s ability to win duels and dominate defenders would have made him a perfect fit for the Blues.
“When I saw Osimhen go to Galatasaray, I couldn’t believe no Premier League club signed him,” Fonte added. “Once he arrives in England, he will bully defenders. He is a nightmare to play against.”
Recalling his own experience facing Osimhen in the Champions League, Fonte admitted, “Even at almost 40, I felt the challenge. He took it easy on me, but it was still tough.”
With Chelsea still searching for a dominant striker, Fonte’s words add to the growing debate on whether the club should have done more to bring Osimhen to Stamford Bridge.
