Chelsea is actively pursuing the signing of Yeremay Hernandez from Deportivo La Coruna, with an ambitious offer already on the table. The 22-year-old winger has shone brightly in Spain’s Segunda Division this season, delivering eight goals and three assists in just 18 matches.
Recognized as a promising talent for the future, Hernandez’s performances have attracted interest from several top European clubs.
Spanish radio station Onda Cero reports that Chelsea has been in contact with both the player’s entourage and Deportivo for weeks, submitting and subsequently improving their bid to secure the winger.
Interest isn’t limited to England—clubs from Spain, Germany, and Italy have also reached out. Despite the attention, Hernandez is reluctant to force a departure from Deportivo, as he values his bond with the fans and key figures at the club.
Currently contracted until 2030, the Spain Under-21 international has a release clause of €20 million (£17m). After scoring in Deportivo’s recent 1-1 draw with Malaga, Hernandez commented on his future, saying, “I’m talking to my agent. I don’t know what’s going to happen. If I leave, it will be to progress in my career.”
Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca addressed transfer plans ahead of the club’s FA Cup win over Morecambe, stating that new signings will only happen if they improve the squad.
“We will only sign players to upgrade the team,” Maresca said. “If we’re making additions, it’s because we believe they will enhance the squad, not just to add numbers.”
As the January transfer window progresses, Chelsea’s pursuit of Hernandez highlights their ambition to secure one of Europe’s brightest young stars.
