Chelsea’s preparations for their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Brighton have been hit by a major injury setback, with head coach Enzo Maresca confirming that Marc Guiu could be sidelined for an extended period.
Maresca revealed in his pre-match press conference that the 19-year-old striker suffered a “bad injury” during the recent 2-1 win over West Ham.
While the exact timeframe remains uncertain, he admitted it “doesn’t look a short injury” and could last “weeks or months.”
Guiu, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona last summer for £5 million, had been a strong option in attack, scoring six goals in 13 appearances at an impressive rate of one every 96 minutes.
With Nicolas Jackson also nursing an injury, the Blues’ attacking options have been significantly weakened.
Jackson, however, appears to have escaped a long-term issue. “Nico is better. Could be fit for Saturday,” Maresca said, though he acknowledged there is still some risk in rushing him back.
Despite losing Joao Felix on deadline day, the Chelsea boss remains confident in his squad’s depth.
He hinted that Christopher Nkunku could step up in a central role, having already played there in recent matches.
With Chelsea struggling for form—winning just two of their last eight Premier League games—the FA Cup presents a chance to revive their season. However, Guiu’s injury could prove a significant blow as they chase silverware in multiple competitions.
