Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s current manager, has expressed frustration with Robert Sanchez, the club’s No.1 goalkeeper, following a string of errors that have undermined defensive stability.

Despite publicly backing Sanchez and urging him to take risks, Maresca’s patience appears to be running thin.

Liverpool’s Kelleher has emerged as a prime target for Chelsea. The Republic of Ireland international has consistently impressed as Alisson Becker’s understudy, showcasing his reliability during the Brazilian’s absence due to injury.

Liverpool, however, are restructuring their goalkeeping lineup, having secured Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili for the upcoming season. This move places Kelleher and Alisson in a precarious position, as neither is expected to settle for a secondary role under the new hierarchy.

Chelsea’s goalkeeper troubles trace back to the departure of Thibaut Courtois in 2018. Subsequent signings, including Kepa Arrizabalaga, failed to meet expectations despite a record-breaking transfer fee.

Although Sanchez regained his position under Maresca, his inconsistency has reignited the club’s search for a dependable No.1.

Kelleher, now 26, finds himself at a career crossroads. Shay Given, a former Ireland international, emphasized Kelleher’s potential, stating that he has proven himself capable of being a Premier League starter.

Given urged Kelleher to seek opportunities where he can establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper, especially as Liverpool prioritizes Alisson as their preferred option.

With Chelsea’s defensive struggles persisting, Kelleher’s move could signal a significant shift, providing stability to a position that has plagued the club for years.
