Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku has provided clarity on his future amidst rumors linking him with a return to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). The 26-year-old forward, who joined the Blues from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for £52 million, has been making headlines following reports of interest from his former club.
Nkunku, who began his career at PSG and played 78 games for the club, acknowledged PSG’s stature but confirmed that there has been no official approach for his services. “PSG remains a big club, but there has not been one approach,” Nkunku told French outlet *Telefoot*.
The French international has enjoyed a prolific start to the season, netting seven goals in 11 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea. He is contracted with the club until June 30, 2029, and has made a total of 25 appearances since arriving in London.
Competition for playing time has been fierce, as Nkunku has had to vie for minutes alongside Nicolas Jackson. Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has indicated that fitting both players into the starting XI presents challenges, particularly concerning defensive balance. “We can think to play with Nicolas, Christo, Joao, Cole Palmer, Noni [Madueke] – fantastic! But then who is defending?” Maresca stated, highlighting the need for a well-rounded team strategy.
Chelsea’s next challenge comes on Sunday as they prepare to face Liverpool in a highly anticipated match at Anfield. Currently, the Blues sit fourth in the Premier League table after their first seven fixtures of the 2024-25 season, signaling a positive trajectory under Maresca’s management.
