A former Chelsea player has shed light on the surprising training habits of one of the Premier League’s most gifted stars, Eden Hazard, describing him as “almost lazy” on the practice field.

Loic Remy, who spent three years at Stamford Bridge, scored just eight goals in 32 league appearances during his tenure.
Though overshadowed by first-choice striker Diego Costa, Remy was part of Jose Mourinho’s squad that achieved a Premier League and League Cup double in the 2014-15 season.
During his time at Chelsea, Remy shared a dressing room with legends like Petr Cech, John Terry, Didier Drogba, and Cesar Azpilicueta. But when reflecting on his experience, one name stood out above all: Eden Hazard.
“He impressed me so much,” Remy said, recalling Hazard’s performances despite his relaxed approach in training. Hazard, widely regarded as one of the most talented players of his generation, won Chelsea’s Player of the Year award a record four times during his seven-year stint at the club.
He was also named Premier League Player of the Year during Chelsea’s double-winning campaign under Mourinho.
Hazard’s legacy includes 110 goals in 352 appearances for Chelsea, along with two Premier League titles, but it was his ability to shine on matchdays that left a lasting impression on Remy.
Speaking to Ladbrokes, Remy described his first encounter with Hazard in training. “I saw him being so casual—losing the ball, not defending. It was like he was playing with friends in the street,” Remy said. Puzzled, Remy approached Hazard.
“I asked him, ‘Eden, is that really how you train?’ He just smiled and said, ‘You’ll see who’s the boss this weekend.’”
Remy didn’t have to wait long to witness Hazard’s brilliance. In his debut match for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Remy watched from the bench as Hazard tore through the opposition with ease. “It was like he was playing against children,” Remy said.
Later in the game, Remy came on as a substitute and scored his first goal for the club, capitalizing on a move initiated by Hazard. “I was so happy and proud,” he recalled. Back in the dressing room, Hazard approached him with a grin. “He sat next to me and said, ‘I told you: who’s the boss?’”
Hazard’s remarkable career at Chelsea cemented him as one of the club’s greatest players, leaving a legacy of unforgettable moments and extraordinary skill. For Remy, the Belgian magician’s talent transcended his casual training demeanor, proving that Hazard truly was the “boss” when it mattered most.
