Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku has been advised to evaluate his future at Stamford Bridge as his struggle for minutes continues in Enzo Maresca’s setup.

Nkunku, who joined the Blues in the summer of 2023 after a successful spell at RB Leipzig, was expected to be a key player. However, a season plagued by injury meant he only made 14 appearances across all competitions. However Manchester united are keen on signing him and to bring him to old Trafford

Now fit again, the 27-year-old has found it hard to earn a regular spot in the first team under Maresca, starting just three league matches this season.

Though he’s featured more in cup competitions, his lack of consistent Premier League involvement has led Nkunku to contemplate his future at Chelsea.

Top clubs, including Barcelona and Manchester United, have reportedly shown interest in the French forward. Jason Cundy, former Chelsea defender, believes Nkunku should seriously consider a move if any offers come his way this January.

“What is Nkunku? What’s his best position? Who is he?” Cundy questioned on talkSPORT when discussing Nkunku’s role in the team.

Cundy went on to explain that Nkunku isn’t suited to the number nine role and believes he’s caught between two positions, neither of which allow him to showcase his strengths.

“Nkunku isn’t a number nine, and he doesn’t fit in the system alongside Jackson,” Cundy stated, suggesting the Frenchman has yet to find his place in Maresca’s tactical setup.

Instead of Nkunku, Cundy advocated for more opportunities for Marc Guiu, Chelsea’s young striker who arrived from Barcelona in the summer and has already netted six goals in the Conference League. “Guiu works hard, he’s fast, and he scores goals,” Cundy praised. “He’s a better fit for the number nine role than Nkunku.”
